GRP Fibreglass Roofing

GRP gives a flat roof a single, seamless waterproof layer with no joints to fail — when it is installed in the right conditions.

About this service

GRP Fibreglass Roofing from Master Roofing & Flat Roofing

GRP (glass reinforced plastic) roofing is built up on site: a resin is applied to a prepared deck, reinforced with a glass-fibre mat and finished with a coloured topcoat. The result is a continuous, joint-free surface.

GRP is a precise process. It depends on a dry, sound deck, correct resin mixing and suitable weather, so preparation and planning are just as important as the lay itself.

Where GRP is commonly used

  • Single-storey rear extensions
  • Garage roofs
  • Dormer roofs
  • Porches and bay roofs
  • Balconies and walkways (with suitable specification)
  • Replacing failed felt roofs

Options

How a GRP roof is installed

01

Deck preparation

Checking or replacing the deck with suitable boards, laid to the correct falls.

02

Edge trims

Pre-formed trims fitted to drip edges, upstands and gutter edges.

03

Laminate layer

Resin and glass-fibre matting applied and consolidated to remove air.

04

Topcoat

A coloured, weather-resistant topcoat that gives the finished surface.

Benefits and practical considerations

  • GRP needs dry conditions and suitable temperatures during installation.
  • Upstands and abutments must be detailed carefully where the roof meets walls.
  • Like any roof, GRP benefits from occasional checks and keeping outlets clear.
